Mental Capacity training in care homes

While the Mental Capacity Act (2005) is a statutory piece of legislation, that is actively required within the healthcare setting, it is not a part of ‘mandatory’ training that health and care professionals are required to undertake. This is one of the many reasons why the application of the Mental Capacity Act is so inconsistent between different care homes and between different healthcare providers.

Mental Capacity Act (Northern Ireland) 2016: Overview Part 2

A key focus of the Mental Capacity Act (Northern Ireland) is the Deprivation of Liberty, also known as DoL. While there are some similarities with the MCA for England and Wales, there are some key differences in how the process works in Northern Ireland. In particular, there are two separate Codes of Practice that professionals must adhere to. The process for conducting an assessment is also slightly different.

New Mental Capacity webinars for 2022

We are excited to announce the first dates for our new webinar series designed to raise awareness, strengthen skills and build confidence in applying the Mental Capacity Act (2005) in health and care settings. Each 3-hour session will look at the Mental Capacity Act as a whole including how to assess, what questions to ask, Best Interest decisions and the forthcoming Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS).
